BYD (Build Your Dreams) is all set to introduce its second model in India during this festive season. The carmaker has confirmed that it will launch the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV on 11th October 2022. Here, it will be placed against the cars like Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV.
BYD is the Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway backed Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer that overtook Elon Musk’s Tesla as the world’s largest EV maker by volume in July 2022. The company sold 641,000 units in the first half of this year against 564,000 units of Tesla.
Measuring around 4.5 metres in length, the upcoming BYD Atto 3 electric SUV will be assembled from SKD kits at the company’s Sriperumbudur facility in Chennai. Deliveries of the model are likely to begin in early 2023. The electric car manufacturer will participate at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo and showcase its product lineup. BYD recently opened its first showroom at Okhla in New Delhi. It plans to expand its dealership network in Nodia and Mumbai.
The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV is already on sale in RHD (right-hand-drive) markets including New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. The model comes with a 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh battery pack delivering power worth 204PS and 310Nm of torque. With the bigger battery pack, it promises a range of 480km (as per NEDC standard) on a single charge. The EV is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 7.3 seconds. In global markets, it’s offered in three colour options – Surf Blue, Boulder Grey and Ski White.
In terms of features, the new BYD electric SUV offers a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, voice commands, a premium 8-speaker Dirac HD audio system, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, electric power assisted steering wheel, driver and front passenger heated seats, USB C and USB A ports and more. The Atto 3 has been equipped with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) along with the tyre pressure monitoring system, hill descent control, traction control system, multiple airbags and electronic stability program.
