The long-awaited all-new Mahindra Thar will finally make global debut tomorrow. The new model will come with new design highlights, modern interior and new set of engines. Mahindra will aim to make the new Thar lifestyle SUV a cult brand in India.
The all-new Mahindra Thar will be based on the new GEN3 platform, which also underpins the Scorpio and the TUV300. The SUV will also grow in size to create more space inside the cabin. Going by the spy images, it is visible that the new Thar has retained the traditional design. It features the signature seven slat front grille, circular headlamps, new bumper, boxy design and flared wheel arches. It is expected that the new model will receive new 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the all-new Mahindra Thar comes equipped with more modern features which were missing in the previous model. It gets a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, roof-mounted speakers, new MID unit, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, traction control, dual airbags, hill descent control and more.
The new Thar will come with soft-top and factory-fitted hard-top versions. Adding to it, the top-end variants of the lifestyle SUV will also receive front facing rear seats. The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be offered with 2 engine options – a 138bhp, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and a 187bhp, 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a torque convertor automatic.
The new-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to be priced slightly higher than the previous model. It is likely to cost around Rs 10 – Rs 15 lakh. The new model will take on the likes of the Force Gurkha and the upcoming Suzuki Jimny.
