All Hyundai Cars Now Available With 6 Airbags

Hyundai Motor India has taken a significant step towards enhancing safety standards by making 6 airbags a standard feature across its entire product range, spanning from the entry-level Grand i10 Nios hatchback to the mid-size Aura sedan and the subcompact Venue SUV. Previously, these models came with 4 airbags as standard, with the option for 6 airbag protection available only on the higher trims. All Hyundai cars and their all variants also receive 3-point seatbelt (all seats) and seatbelt reminder (all seats). Now, these enhanced safety features are standard on all Hyundai vehicles. Notably, models like the Verna, Creta, and Tucson already featured 6 airbags as standard.

In addition to the airbag upgrade, Hyundai had earlier made three-point seatbelts with seatbelt reminders standard for all seats across its product lineup this year. With the exception of the recently launched Exter, Aura, and Grand i10 Nios, all Hyundai models now come equipped with electronic stability control (ESC) and hill start assist control as standard features.

Verna Global NCAP

The new Hyundai Verna, which recently underwent Global NCAP crash tests, achieved the highest safety rating for both adult and child occupants, securing a 5-star safety rating. This achievement marks a significant milestone, as the Verna becomes the first Made-in-India Hyundai model to receive this top rating in crash tests. The tested model featured 6 airbags, Isofix mounts, electronic stability control, and seat belt reminders for all seats. However, it’s worth noting that the bodyshell of the new Verna was rated as unstable and not capable of withstanding further loadings.

3 Hyundais For Bharat NCAP

Moreover, Hyundai has voluntarily submitted three of its models for testing to Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme), although the specific models have not yet been disclosed. The results of these tests are expected to be revealed in the near future.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Hyundai is poised to expand its presence in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with affordable EVs featuring high levels of localization. The company aims to capture 20 percent of the EV market share by 2030 and has already outlined plans to launch six battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in India by 2028. In the internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger vehicle segment, Hyundai will introduce the updated Creta in early 2024, followed by the new-generation Venue and Creta EV in 2025.
