Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to expand the XUV700 SUV model lineup by introducing a new entry-level petrol automatic variant. According to a Type Approval Certificate issued by ARAI, the upcoming MX-based variant of the Mahindra XUV700 will feature a petrol engine paired with an automatic gearbox, and it’s expected to offer a 5-seater configuration in the near future. In terms of pricing, the new MX petrol automatic variant is anticipated to command a premium of around Rs 1.8 lakh over its manual counterpart, which is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh. All the features available on the base trim will also be included in the new petrol-automatic variant, comprising a 7-inch instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto connectivity, power windows, smart door handles, tilt-adjustable steering, USB Type-C ports in the first and second rows, front center armrest with storage, speed-sensing auto door lock, four speakers, follow-me-home headlamps, LED taillights, and electrically adjustable ORVMs.
Powering the Mahindra XUV700 SUV is a choice between a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol mStallion engine and a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol unit delivers a peak power of 200bhp and 380Nm of torque, while the diesel variant comes in two states of tune – 155bhp with 360Nm (for entry-level trims only) and 185bhp with 420Nm (MT)/450Nm (AT) (for higher variants only). The diesel engine offers four drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom – allowing users to adjust steering response and performance according to their preferences.
Both engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. However, the lower diesel variants are available exclusively with the manual transmission. The SUV model lineup comes equipped with an AWD (all-wheel-drive) setup. Currently, the Mahindra XUV700 SUV is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 26.99 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
