7 New Upcoming MPVs To Be Launched In India

In this article, we bring you a list of 7 upcoming new MPVs (Multi-Purpose Vehicles) in the Indian market in the next couple of years –

Hyundai Staria

Korean automaker, Hyundai will enter into the MPV segment with an all-new product. To be positioned against the Mahindra Marazzo, the upcoming MPV is rumoured to be called the Hyundai Staria. The new MPV will be based on the new Creta’s platform, which also underpins the Kia Seltos. This platform is compatible enough to accommodate 7-seater SUVs and MPVs, and different engine options. It is likely to ride on 20mm longer wheelbase compared to the Creta. The new MPV is expected to be launched by the end of 2021 or early 2022. It is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5-litre NA petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel.

Kia MPV

The Korean automaker, Kia will also launch an all-new mid-sized MPV in the Indian market in 2022. The new MPV will be based on the Seltos platform, which also underpins the new-gen Hyundai Creta. It is expected to measure around 4.5 meters in length, which is similar to the Mahindra Marazzo. The SUV will have Kia’s latest design language, featuring the signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille and sharp headlamps. The new MPV is likely to share most of the features with the Seltos. The new MPV is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. While the former is good for 113bhp of power and 144Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Tata MPV

It is reported that Tata Motors is readying an all-new MPV based on the OMEGA ARC platform. This platform currently underpins the Harrier and the Gravitas. It will be positioned against  the Mahindra Marazzo and the Toyota Innova Crysta. Details about the new product are yet t be disclosed, but it expected to be offered with petrol and diesel engine options. The MPV could receive the de-tuned version of the 2.0L diesel and the new 1.5L petrol engines.

Maruti-Toyota C-MPV

Suzuki and Toyota joint venture is readying an all-new C-segment MPV, which will be based on the front-wheel-drive monocoque platform. The new MPV will be positioned between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. It will directly rival the Mahindra Marazzo and the upcoming C-segment MPVs from Hyundai and Kia Motors. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is good for 103bhp and 138Nm of torque.

After introducing the Glanza based on the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza based Urban Cruiser, Toyota will launch a 7-seater MPV based on the Ertiga in India. The revised Ertiga will receive design changes in-line with Toyota’s models for the ASEAN markets. It will be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine that is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Ford Motor Company is also readying an all-new C-segment MPV, which will be based on the Mahindra Marazzo. The new model will receive an all-new design and interior, and will be more powerful than the Mahindra Marazzo. It is expected to be produced on the Marazzo’s production line. Ford’s version of the Marazzo MPV will be powered by Mahindra’s bigger and more powerful 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. This engine recently debuted in the Mahindra Thar, and offers 132bhp of power and 320Nm of torque.

MG Motors is also considering introducing the 360M C-segment MPV in the country to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Mahindra Marazzo. In terms of proportions, the MG 360M is 4,615mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,660mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,750mm. It is around 220mm longer than the Ertiga MPV. Powering the 360M 7-seater MPV is a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to a CVT automatic gearbox. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 103PS and a peak torque of 135Nm.
