The 5-door Mahindra Thar India launch has been officially confirmed for 2024. Meanwhile, the carmaker has been testing the vehicle aggressively and the latest spy image shows its single pane sunroof. The lifestyle SUV could be offered with the soft-top option that’s missing in its 3-door version. Compared to its smaller sibling, the 5-door Thar will have longer wheelbase (by 300mm) and a more spacious and practical interior. Here, it will be placed against the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny that’s ready to hit roads on 7th June 2023.
As of now, details of the Mahindra Thar 5-door are scanty. Though, the SUV is likely to come with the updated touchscreen infotainment system with Mahindra’s AdrenoX software, front centre armrest, sunglass holder and multiple storage spaces. Features such as roof-mounted speakers, a coloured multi-info display in the instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, power adjustable ORVMs, cruise control, etc. are expected to be carried forward from the 3-door Thar. The lifestyle off-road SUV will come with multiple seating options.
Reports suggest that the 5-door Mahindra Thar could be offered with the same 2.2L diesel and 2.0L turbo petrol engine that do duty in its 3-door version. While the oil burner is good for 172bhp and 370Nm, the gasoline unit makes 200bhp with 370-380Nm. It can be had with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The off-road SUV will come with 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain options.

The home-grown automaker will also bring in the heavily updated Mahindra XUV300 subcompact SUV. The updated model is expected to make its debut towards the end of 2023 and it will go on sale sometime 2024. Besides this, the company will introduce the Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus in coming months. The model lineup will be made available in 5 variants, powered by a 1.5L diesel engine that makes a peak power of 100bhp and 260Nm of torque. A single 5-speed manual gearbox will be on offer.
