The upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar has garnered considerable attention among automotive enthusiasts. It’s ready to be a compelling addition to the off-roading segment, building on the success of its 3-door counterpart. Although the official launch date remains undisclosed, it appears to be in its final development stages and is expected to grace the roads in the first half of 2024. The latest spy images provide a glimpse of the SUV in its nearly production-ready form, featuring the iconic front grille, LED projector headlamps with distinctive DRLs, and LED fog lamps. Several design elements will set it apart from its 3-door counterpart. One notable difference observed in the spy images is the uniquely designed taillamps with new LED graphics, although the overall shape remains consistent with the 3-door Thar.
Additionally, the 5-door variant may come with a distinct style of alloy wheels. The changes aren’t limited to the exterior; the interior of the SUV showcases a dashcam and a larger infotainment system with an improved user interface. While the 3-door Thar is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen information unit, the 5-door version is likely to feature a more spacious 10-inch display. Select variants may also offer a single-pane sunroof and front and rear center armrests. The center console design will undergo a refresh.
Regarding the engine setup for the 5-door Mahindra Thar, it is expected to draw inspiration from the Scorpio N. The model lineup is likely to include the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines. In the Scorpio N, the turbo petrol unit delivers a robust 200bhp of maximum power at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 370Nm to 380Nm. The diesel powerplant has been fine-tuned to offer two different power outputs: 172bhp with 370Nm (with MT) or 400Nm (with AT) and 130bhp with 300Nm. Customers will have the option of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox for the SUV model lineup.
