Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric segment with close to 80 per cent of the market share in the country. Mahindra and MG Motor India are also planning to introduce multiple new EVs in the country to grand some market share. Mahindra XUV400 EV

Mahindra XUV300 EV Specs

Mahindra has officially announced to launch the much-awaited Mahindra XUV400 pure electric SUV in the country on September 8, 2022. The new XUV400 is essentially the electric version of the XUV300 compact SUV, which is based on SsangYong’s X100 platform. The new model will measure around 4.2 meters in length and will offer more space and bigger boot compared to the 3,995mm long XUV300.

The new Mahindra XUV400 will come with the high-energy-dense NMC battery sourced from LG Chem. The NMC batteries will ensure more power and a longer range. It is expected to offer a range of over 400km on a full charge. The SUV is expected to feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Adreno X connected car AI technology. If reports are to be believed, the electric SUV could also get the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV Specs

Tata Motors is testing the electric version of the Altroz hatchback, which first unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new Tata Altroz electric will come with differently styled bumpers, a closed-off grille, air-dams with star pattern, new alloys with blue highlights, and blacked-out section of the tailgate. The blue highlight will continue inside the cabin as well. It is expected to come with lighter upholstery and a rotary gear selector.

The new Tata Altroz EV is expected to come with the brand’s updated Ziptron electric technology that is offered on the Tata Nexon EV. The company could use a different battry size and different power figures for the electric hatchback.

BYD Atto 3

BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV

Build Your Dreams (BYD), the Chinese automaker has finally entered the passenger vehicle segment with the e6 electric MPV. The company will also launch the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV during festive season, before Diwali. It will be positioned against the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV400. It is 4,455mm long, 1,875mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,720mm.

The electric SUV comes with a permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 204bhp and 310Nm of torque. This electric SUV is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 7.3 seconds. It is offered with two battery packs – 49.93kWh and 60.48kWh. While the former is claimed to have a range of 320km, the later has a WLTP range of 420km. The SUV’s battery can be charged using a 3-pin A or a Type-2 AC charger. It also supports up to 80kW DC fast charging, which is claimed to charge the battery pack in less than 1 hour.

MG Entry-Level Car

MG Wuling Air EV

MG Motor India has started road testing of its upcoming entry-level electric car, which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2023. It is based on the Wuling Air EV, internally called the E230. The new model will cost somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. It will be positioned as an urban commuter in the crowded cities. It has a wheelbase of 2,010mm and measures 2.9 meters in length, which makes it around 400mm shorter than the Maruti Alto. The new model is reportedly to have a battery pack capacity of around 20kWh to 25kWh, which is likely to offer a real-world driving range of 150km. The powertrain is expected to offer 40bhp of power.
