Buoyed by positive response for new Hyryder & Innova Hycross, Toyota is now preparing to launch multiple new SUVs in the country in the next couple of years. The company will introduce a new sub-4 meter SUV based on the Fronx crossover. Adding to it, the Japanese brand has started working on the next gen Fortuner SUV. The company is also reportedly working on a new 7-seater SUV based on the TNGA-C platform that underpins the new Innova Hycross.
Toyota SUV Coupe
The company has discontinued the Urban Cruiser compact SUV based on the previous Maruti Vitara Brezza. Toyota has no plans to introduce a new model based on the new Brezza. Instead, a new SUV Coupe based on the Fronx crossover will be launched before the end of this year. It will be the brand’s only model in the sub-4 meter SUV category. The new model will receive significant design changes over the regular Fronx. It is expected to share styling cues from the Yaris Cross on sale in the European markets. However, the cabin layout will be similar to the Fronx. The SUV Coupe will be offered with two engine options – a 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Toyota Corolla Cross 7-Seater
Toyota is reportedly working on a new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. It will be positioned against the likes of the Jeep Meridian, Mahindra XUV700 and others in its category. The new model will be based on TNGA-C modular platform that underpins the Innova Hycross and the Corolla Cross. In fact, the new SUV could be the 7-seater iteration of the Corolla Cross on sale in select international markets including Indonesia. New Toyota Fortuner
Toyota has started working on the next gen Fortuner SUV, which is reportedly to make global debut in 2024. While the current model is based on the IMV platform, the new Toyota Fortuner will ride on a new TNGA-F architecture that underpins multiple global cars including the Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX500d. This platform is compatible with multiple engine options including ICE and hybrid. The new TNGA-F platform supports a wheelbase length of 2,850-4,180mm. The new model will come with a new diesel engine with mild hybrid system. It is likely to get the 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG).
