2023 Hyundai Kona New Gen Revealed; Bigger, Spacious

The Korean automaker, Hyundai has officially revealed an EV derivative of the new generation Kona SUV. The 2023 Hyundai Kona new gen model will be offered in 4 variants, including all-electric (EV), hybrid electric (HEV), internal combustion engine (ICE) and sporty N Line.

The 2023 Hyundai Kona is larger than the previous model; however, it will remain an urban-centric SUV with bolder styling. The new model is 150mm longer and 25mm wider than the previous model. In fact, the wheelbase has been increased by 60mm. The increase in dimensions helps Hyundai engineers in creating more space inside the cabin.

The new gen Hyundai Kona will first go on sale in EV avatar. The vehicle will later receive an internal combustion engine, hybrid electric powertrain and N-line variant. Despite the shared architecture, EV, ICE/HEV and sporty N Line models have distinctive styling. The new Kona comes with an all-new front section, which has a stretched seamless Horizon lamp. It is the first Hyundai model with a Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp that adds to the EV’s distinctive character.

The 2023 Hyundai Kona features prominent sculpted wheel arch cladding that incorporates headlamps and taillamps. There is a sharp diagonal crease on the sides connecting the satin chrome molding from the belt line to the spoiler. At the back, the SUV gets Seamless Horizon Lamp as well as a high-mounted stop (HMSL) that is integrated within the satin chrome molding of the spoiler.

The 2023 Hyundai Kona EV gets pixel graphic details on the intake grille and rear bumper, a pixel-inspired 19-inch alloy wheel design, black embracing line and optional black side mirrors and roof. The ICE and HEV have rugged bumper and skid plate design, and black wheel arch cladding. The N Line has optional black side mirrors and roof, wing-type spoiler, more aggressive front & rear designs with wing-shaped bumper for a lower stance, unique 19-inch alloys, twin muffler & silver side skirt.

The cabin of the new gen Kona features a sporty layout with floating horizontal C-Pad. It comes with 12.3-inch dual wide displays for infotainment system and driver display. The column type shift-by-wire relocated from the center console to behind the steering wheel. It comes with a curve-less Bench seat in the second-row and a single-pane sunroof.

Hyundai is yet to release the specifications and launch timeline for the new Kona EV. The company will also launch the ICE version, hybrid electric and a sporty looking N-line variant.
