2023 Hyundai i20 N-Line For Emission Testing In Pune

Recently, a test mule of the new 2023 Hyundai i20 N Line was caught on camera during its test round in Pune. The spotted model had an emission testing equipment fitted at the rear section along with the sticker – On Test By ARAI. It seems that the hatchback is under testing for compliance the upcoming RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms that will be enforced in April 2023.

Under the new regulations, the carmakers will be bound to measure pollutants emitted from a vehicle in a real-world driving scenario by using a Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS). In order to monitor real-tone emission levels, all vehicles will have to be equipped with an onboard self-diagnostic device. The programmed fuel injectors and a more finely tuned catalytic converter will also be required. Therefore, the upcoming RDE norms will increase production costs that will lead to the price hike of the vehicles.

The South Korean automaker is also working on the Hyundai i20 facelift that’s currently in its testing phase. The updated version is likely to come with slightly improved design featuring a revised grille with new inserts, slightly tweaked front and rear bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels and Venue-inspired taillamps. Interior of the hatchback could be upgraded with new seat upholstery, new connected car features and ventilated front seats. Most of the features will be carried forward from the current model.

The 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift is likely to come with the same 1.2L, 4-cylinder petrol and 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engines. While the former delivers a peak power of 83bhp and 115Nm of torque, the latter delivers 120bhp with 172Nm. The existing 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel engine will be discontinued due to the upcoming RDE norms. The hatchback model lineup will continue to be offered with a manual, a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox options.
