Mitsubishi’s North American division has officially announced a partnership with Amazon to host the virtual event of global debut of the new Outlander. The new Outlander is designed and developed under the ideal of the Japanese term “I-Fu-Do-Do”, which refers to authentic and majestic. The teaser and spy images confirm that the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will be inspired by the Engelberg Tourer concept. The SUV will debut the brand’s new front grille and revised headlamps, but it retains the double optical assembly scheme which we have already seen on the Eclipse Cross. The SUV gets wraparound windscreen design and the glossy black D-pillar, which gives a floating roof design. It features slim L-shaped tail-lights with striking arrow-shaped light guides.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-C/D platform, which also underpins the X-Trail. It will also share the Nissan’s engine. This will help Mitsubishi to save cost of development of the new model. The new generation Outlander is rumoured to grow in size. The brand will position the new SUV as the largest model in the medium SUV market. The new model will be loaded with several high-end comfort and convenience features.

Adding to it, the SUV will also get PHEV technology featuring a 2.4-litre engine, an electric motor on each axle and a bigger 20kWh lithium-ion battery. The SUV could run up to 70km on full electric mode. It will receive an updated version of its rally-derived Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology.
