2022 Mahindra Scorpio Will Be Lighter, Safer & Feature-Loaded

Buoyed by excellent response for new XUV700 and Thar, Mahindra is now ready to launch the next generation Scorpio in the country. Likely to be launched by mid-2022, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted testing numerous times on the Indian roads. Ahead of the launch, fresh details about the new model has been revealed on a TeamBHP forum.

It is reported that the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be lighter, safer and feature-loaded compared to the outgoing model. It is likely to be around 100kg to 150kg lighter than the current Scorpio. Adding to it, the SUV will share the steering with the XUV700 and will be lighter than the one on the current model. However, it will continue to be hydraulically assisted.

Moreover, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will source the 3D Sony audio system from the new Thar. It is likely to get 8-speaker system instead of six in the Thar. The SUV will get Tan & Burgundy leather seats. The report also claims that the new Scorpio will source the 4×4 drive system from the new Thar; however, it will be tuned for better on-road handling. There will be a rotary knob instead of a shift lever for the transfer case. It will continue to be a shift-on-fly system.

The report further claims that the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be safer and stronger than the outgoing model. It is likely to achieve 4 star crash test rating. The company can easily develop a 5-star rated Scorpio, but this will increase the production cost.

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is likely to be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. The diesel engine is likely to be offered with two states of tunes – 130bhp/300Nm & close to 155bhp/360Nm. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The higher variants will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain along with terrain modes & drive modes.
