2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5-Seat Unveiled: India-Bound

American UV maker, Jeep has revealed the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5-seater SUV. To be positioned between the 3-row Grand Cherokee L and the Meridian, the new Grand Cherokee 5-seater is expected to arrive in our market in 2022. The new model is most likely to be assembled in India via an imported CKD kits.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5-seater is around 294mm shorter than the Grand Cherokee L. It shares the body panels and design with the 3-row SUV. The company has made some changes to keep things fresh in the market. The SUV’s rear has more rakish design, while the Cherokee L has a flattish design. It gets active grille-shutters, air curtains and re-styled rear pillars, which should improve the aerodynamic efficiency.

The cabin also shares the interior with the three-row Grand Cherokee L. It comes with a re-styled dashboard, which accommodates a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.1-inch digital instrument console. There is a new dedicated 10.1-inch screen embedded in the dashboard for the front passenger. It gets a 10-inch head-up display, a wireless smartphone charging system, rear seat entertainment screens and smartphone connectivity. 

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered with multiple engine and gearbox options. It will get a 290bhp, 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine and a 357bhp, 5.7-litre Hermi V8 engine. Both engines will be paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV will also get Jeep’s 4xe technology.

The SUV will also get a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coupled with twin electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. This powertrain offers a combined power output of 375bhp and 637Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid motor features a 400V 17kWh battery that allows the SUV to run around 40km on an electric-only range. The SUV also offers three driving modes.

The Grand Cherokee’s 4xe system will offer the Trailhawk variant, which has a two-speed transfer box, an electric limited-slip differential and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system. This model has a ground clearance of 278mm, and offers a water wading capacity of 610mm.
