After introducing the new-gen Civic, Honda has now revealed the new 2022 Honda Civic Si. It is claimed to set a new benchmark for sport compact sedans, with improved dynamic performance and an updated manual transmission now featuring the rev-matching system from the Civic Type R.
Based on the 11th generation Civic sedan, the 2022 Honda Civic Si will go on sale in the USA later this year. The sedan comes with new and more aggressive upper front bumper and revised rear bumper that accommodates two large oval exhaust tips. A front spoiler hidden under the vehicle and a gloss black rear spoiler mounted atop the trunk lid add downforce to improve high speed stability.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si also features gloss black trim on the exterior mirrors and window surrounds. It gets LED headlights and taillights as standard. The vehicle rides on Si-specific matte black 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. It is finished in a new Si-exclusive Blazing Orange Pearl colour.
Inside the cabin, the 2022 Honda Civic Si comes with sport seats with built-in head restraints and more prominent shoulder and lower thigh side supports. The lower cushion has been raised by 0.5-inch at the front, providing even better thigh support to reduce fatigue on long drives. It has sport pedals and red contrast stitching on the doors, steering wheel, center arm rest, shift boot and shift knob.
It features a new 7-inch colour instrument display with a digital tachometer on the left side, a multi-information display in the center and a physical speedometer dial. The Si gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and a new 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Powering the new Civic Si is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged VTEC engine that churns out 200bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torqu of 260Nm between 1800 and 5000rpm. The motor has a single-mass flywheel. It is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching that is connected to a helical limited-slip differential. The engine comes fitted with a new dual-coil silencer exhaust system for increased flow of gases.
The 2022 Honda Civic Si offers 3 drive modes – Normal, Sport and Individual. It comes with a stiffer suspension system and re-tuned MacPherson strut front and multi-link suspension set-up for sporty handling. It gets 312mm front discs and 282mm rear disc brake. It weighs 1339kg. It comes with 10 airbags and Honda Sensing driver-assistive technologies.
