Skoda To Launch 2 New Cars In Early 2022; Slavia Sedan

After launching the new Kushaq mid-sized SUV, Skoda is now ready to launch an all-new locally developed sedan – called the Slavia in the country. Adding to it, the company will also introduce the new Kodiaq 7-seater premium SUV in early next year. The new Skoda Slavia is likely to make global debut in November 2021, while launch is expected in early 2022.

Czech automaker has officially released a camouflaged picture of the Slavia sedan, which will be positioned against the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. It is the brand’s second model under the Volkswagen Group’s India Plan 2.0. It will be launched as a replacement for the ageing Rapid sedan. The new Skoda Slavia will be developed on VW Group’s localised MQB AO IN platform, which is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and engine options.

It is likely to measure around 4.5 meters in length and will ride on segment-largest wheelbase of 2,651mm. The long wheelbase will help Skoda to liberate more space inside the cabin. It is likely to offer a boot space of more than 500-litres. The Skoda Slavia will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 113bhp and 175Nm of torque, the later offers 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L petrol and a 7-speed DSG with 1.5L petrol.

Estimated to be priced around Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, the new Skoda Slavia sedan will rival the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

The new BSVI compliant Skoda Kushaq was scheduled to be launched during festive season; however, the launch has been pushed to early next year. It is reportedly to be launched in January 2022. The new model will come with several cosmetic design changes along with upgraded interior.

In terms of styling changes, the new Kodiaq gets a revised grile, slimmer headlamp unit, and there is a separate LED module placed under the main unit. At the back, the SUV gets LED tail-lamps with crystalline effect. The SUV will be offered in three trim levels – Active, Ambition and Style – which sport aluminium-effect trims on the front and rear apron.

The new Skoda Kodiaq will be powered by a BSVI compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 187bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. A 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox will come as standard, while a 4×4 system could be offered as an optional.
