Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the new GLA SUV and its performance-oriented AMG GLA iteration in the country. The 2021 Mercedes GLA model lineup is spread across three variants – 200 Progressive Line, 220d Progressive Line and 220d 4Matic AMG Line – priced at Rs 42.10 lakh, Rs 43.70 lakh and 46.70 lakh respectively. The new Mercedes AMG GLA 35 4Matic has been made available at Rs 57.30 lakh. These are ex-showroom introductory prices, which are bound to increase by Rs 1.5 lakh from 1st July 2021.
Both models can be booked via Mercedes’ online sales portal. The 2021 AMG GLA is the third AMG model to be imported as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit and assembled locally. Here, the updated GLA continues to face challenge from Volvo XC40, BMA X1 and Mini Countryman.
Engine setup of the 2021 Mercedes GLA includes a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel and a 1.3L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit. The oil burner, paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, delivers a peak power of 190bhp and 400Nm of torque. The gasoline motor comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and promises power worth 163bhp and 250Nm of torque. While the FWD (front-wheel-drive) system is standard, Mercedes’ 4Matic AWD (all-wheel-drive) is reserved for the diesel variant.
The performance-oriented 2021 Mercedes AMG GLA derives its power from a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol motor pushing out a massive 306bhp and 400Nm. For transmission duties, the model has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It comes with the 4WD system. The company is offering an 8 year warranty on engine and gearbox along with the class-leading 3 year comprehensive vehicle warranty.
Visually, the 2021 Mercedes GLA looks different from the previous generation model. It has more flowing creases, while maintaining the rugged appeal with black body cladding. Compared to the old model, the new one is 104mm taller and sits on a 30mm longer wheelbase. That means, the new GLA offers more cabin space than before.
The new AMG GLA carries a few different design elements such as a Panamericana grille with vertical slats, larger wheels, a new roof spoiler, bigger tailpipes and ‘AMG’ badges at the rear. The SUV’s key features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice prompt, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 64 colour ambient lighting, powered front seats with memory, a large sunroof and many more.
