2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Unveiled; Modern Features, More Power

German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The new model is scheduled to be launched in the global markets in early 2021. The new model comes with all-new design, second-gen MRA platform and all-new interior.

Talking about styling, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a longer hood, flush fitting door handles, a short front overhang, 3-point daytime running lights and a coupe-like roof line. The new model comes fitted with 18-inch wheels; however, customers can opt for larger wheels ranging from 18 to 21 inches.

Thanks to the new MRA platform, the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is significantly bigger than the older model. It is 34mm longer, 22mm wider and 12mm taller than its previous model. In fact, the wheelbase has been raised by 51mm to increase the legroom space for the rear occupants. Mercedes claims that the new model offers 24mm extra legroom for rear seat passengers. It comes with a boot space of 550-litres.

The new S-Class comes with a radically different and feature-loaded interior. Instead of the traditional centre console, the new model gets a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen. The dashboard design is completely different, featuring glossy trim. There is a thin strip of LED ambient lighting around the front cockpit. The instrument console has been replaced by a floating 12.3-inch touchscreen. There is a head-up display with augmented reality. The company is offering a 30-speaker Burmester 4D sound system and an active LED ambient lighting system with 263 LEDs.

The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is also benefitted with the new MBUX infotainment system, which supports voice commands of 27 different languages. This system also supports gesture control to operate the sunroof. It is also compatible with fingerprint, face and voice recognition to authenticate the driver.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class engine options include 3.0L 6-cylinder petrol with mild-hybrid system, with 9-speed AT a 2.9L diesel with 9-speed AT, a 4.0L V8 petrol and a 3.0L turbo-petrol with a gearbox-mounted electric motor and a 28kWh lithium ion battery. The 3.0L petrol engine produces two states of tunes 362bhp and 429bhp, while the diesel engine also tuned to offer two states of tunes – 282bhp and 325Nm.  The 4.0L V8 engine offers 500bhp, while the 3.0L petrol with electric motor offers 510bhp. The sedan can travel up to 100km on electric power alone.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Specs

The 3.0L petrol engine with mild-hybrid system comes with an integrated starter motor, brake energy recuperation and off-throttle coating. The 2021 S-Class comes with E-Active Body Control suspension with Impulse Side Function. This function raises the car body by up to 80mm when radar sensors detect an impending side impact. It comes with Level 3 autonomous driving capability, which drives the car autonomously at speeds of up to 60kmph.
