2021 Mahindra XUV500 Is Bigger, Powerful, Feature-Loaded: Rendered

The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2021, most probably in April. The new model will be positioned against the likes of the MG Hector Plus and the Tata Gravitas. A new digital rendering shows the possible design of the upcoming XUV500. Adding to it, the report also reveals some interesting details about the next iteration of the popular SUV.

The report claims that the new model will retain the identity of the current XUV500. The SUV will retain the strong XUV-like stance, large cowl up front and silhouette. It will receive a more prominent upright new grille along with newly-styled C-shaped headlamps and DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). The SUV now gets flush-mounted door handles instead of the side-hinged, flap-type door handles.

The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will sit on a longer wheelbase, and will be wider than the outgoing model. The report claims that the new model will have stiffer suspension, and lower center of gravity, which will improve the driving dynamics. It will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will also underpins the Ford C-SUV. AWD system will come as an optional. Ford is reportedly helping Mahindra in improving the ride and handling of the SUV. The report claims that Ford engineers have contributed heavily in making the new XUV500 drive, ride and handle with plenty of confidence.

It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and a 190bhp, 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel engine is the same that powers the second-generation Thar. However, it will offer close to 185bhp of power that is around 53bhp more than the Thar’s engine. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

New XUV500 Interior Spied

Thanks to the longer wheelbase and wider body, the new XUV500 will come with spacious and practical cabin. The new model is expected to be offered in 6- and 7-seat configurations. The new model is equipped with high-end comfort and convenience features. The SUV comes with mercedes-like two flush-mountd horizontal screens, which are designed to look like one long panel. It will have a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, electronic parking brake, hill hold, and panoramic sunroof.

The new XUV500 will also receive segment-first Level 2 Autonomous Driving Assist Systems (ADAS). It will have features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, etc.
