The long-awaited new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar will officially go on sale in the country on October 2, 2020. The new model comes equipped with a redesigned front grille, which is completely different from the traditional Jeep-inspired grille. It is expected that new Thar will also receive a traditional 7-slat grille as an accessory.
Adding to it, the 2020 Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV is also likely to receive a 5-slat version. The new model retains the original rugged styling with circular headlamps and wide fenders. In terms of styling, the new Thar gets front fog lamps, dual-tone front and rear bumpers, LED DRLs and R28 deep silver alloys and LED tail-lamps. The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be offered in two variants – LX (Lifestyle Series) and VX (Adventure Series). The company is offered 3 roof options with the new Thar – a fixed hard top, manual convertible top and a fixed soft top.
The entry-level Mahindra Thar AX series comes with a fixed soft top, and the convertible/hard top will be offered as optional. The SUV gets side facing seats, R16 white steel wheels, steel footsteps, height adjustable driver’s seat as optional, mechanical lock differential, power steering and power windows, dual airbags, central locking, ABS, rear parking assist, remote keyless entry, etc.
The LX variant will come with convertible and hard top options. It will be a 4-seater lifestyle SUV. In terms of features, the new Thar LX gets dual-tone bumpers, R18 alloys, moulded footsteps, LED DRLs, front fog lamps, height adjustable front seats with lumbar support, touchscreen infotainment system, TFT MID screen, electronic HVAC switch, electronic stability programme, brake lock differential, etc.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be offered with 2 engine options – a 2.0L mStallion petrol and a 2.2L mHawk diesel. While the petrol engine produces 150bhp and 320Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 130bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
