2020 Mahindra Thar AX Vs LX – How Different Are They?

The home-grown carmaker recently unveiled the much-awaited 2020 Mahindra Thar off-road SUV in the country. The model is scheduled to launch on coming 2nd October. The carmaker says that “the Thar is a quantum leap in terms of performance, everyday comfort & convenience, technology and safety”.

The SUV’s second-generation version received noticeable design changes including front fog lamps, dual-tone front and rear bumpers, LED DRLs, R28 deep silver alloy wheels and LED taillamps. It comes in a choice of three roof options – a hard top, manual convertible top (first-in-class) and a fixed soft top.

The all-black interior theme with silver accents and faux carbon-fibre detailing around centre bezel and AC vents gives it a sporty feel and appeal. Mechanical updates such as new suspension setup, brake locking differential (first-in-class), 226mm of ground clearance, 650mm water wading depth, all terrain tyres, electromechanical driveline disconnect enhance its off-road capabilities.

New Mahindra Thar 2020 Interior

One of the major changes has been made under the hood. The new Mahindra Thar 2020 comes with a 150bhp, 2.0L mStallion petrol engine along with the BS6 130bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel motor. The 4X4 configuration is exclusively offered in the top-spec variants. The carmaker has confirmed that the new Thar will come in two trims – AX and LX. Here’s the feature list of both the versions.
