1,850 Mahindra Scorpio Classic For Indian Army – Special Features

It is indeed significant news from Mahindra & Mahindra as the Indian Army has placed an order for 1,850 Mahindra Scorpio Classic SUVs. This order comes after the Army’s earlier purchase of 1,470 units of the Scorpio Classic earlier this year. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Army-specific Scorpio Classic special.

Special Design Elements

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic supplied to the Indian Army features an Olive Green colour scheme. It stands out with thick black cladding on half of its body and silver-finished alloy wheels. The chrome treatment is limited to the front grille and badges, while the rest of the trims are blacked-out. The SUV proudly displays a prominent 4WD insignia and includes a tow hook attachment for transportation purposes.

Interior Features

The Army-specific Mahindra Scorpio Classic is based on the top-end variant, offering a range of comfort and safety features. Inside, it boasts a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, faux leather steering wheel, fabric upholstery, steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, remote central locking, cruise control, height-adjustable driver seat, auto door lock, gear shift indicator, rear wiper and washer, and more.

Same Diesel Engine

No changes are expected under the hood for the Mahindra Scorpio Classic purchased by the Indian Army. It is believed to retain the same 2.2L diesel engine, delivering a claimed power output of 132bhp and 300Nm of torque. The SUV comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and drive-by-wire technology.

Indian Army’s Fleet

In addition to the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, the Indian Army also utilizes other vehicles such as Tata’s 4X4 Xenon pickup truck and Safari Storme SUV, Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, and Force Gurkha. It’s worth noting that the army has shown interest in the newly-launched Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door lifestyle off-road SUV, which could potentially replace the aging Maruti Gypsy in its fleet.
