First Bajaj-Triumph Bike Launch Pushed To 2023

In 2017, Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles had announced their long-term, non-equity partnership to develop mid-capacity motorcycles (ranging from 200cc to 750cc). The first Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle was scheduled to roll out in 2021. However, due to “Covid situation”, its launch has been pushed to 2023. Speaking to ETAuto, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, has revealed that there will be several months of delay because of the pandemic. Though, the company will manage to bring in the first Bajaj-Triumph bike in 2022 or 2023.

The company remains tight lipped about the products that will be developed under its partnership with Triumph motorcycles. Though, the reports suggest that the lineup might include a baby Daytona 250, Triumph Tiger or a mini Bonneville. The new Bajaj-Triumph bikes will also be launched in other emerging markets including South East Asia and Latin America. While Baja’s Chakan based plant in Pune will serve as production hub, the motorcycles will be retailed under the Triumph nameplate.

Bajaj-Triumph Partnership

The first product to roll out under this joint venture will be 200cc motorcycle that’s expected to be priced below Rs 2 lakh. It will be positioned against the Jawa Classic 350, newly-launched Honda CB350 and the new-generation Royal Enfield bikes. As of now, details of the model are scanty. If reports are to be believed, it might use a 200cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.

The model could be based on the entry-level Triumph Bonneville featuring retro-classic styling. It might carry a circular headlamp, alloy wheels, a flat single-piece seat and a digital instrument cluster. For performing braking duties, the bike might have disc brakes at the front and rear axles. The dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system) might come as standard fitment.

More details on the upcoming new Bajaj-Triumph bikes are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
