Nissan to Launch a New Compact SUV in 2020; to Rival Nexon
We reported earlier that Renault will launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed HBC, in India in 2020. The pre-production version of the compact SUV will be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. If media reports are to be believed, Nissan will also introduce a sub-4 meter SUV in India in the second half of 2020.
The new Nissan compact SUV is expected to be launched under Datsun nameplate. It will share the platform with the Renault HBC, which is most likely to be built on the modified CMF-A modular architecture. Nissan has dropped plans of launching a compact SUV based on the GO Cross concept, which was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Besides sharing platform, the upcoming Nissan-Datsun compact SUV will source the powertrain and gearbox options with the Renault HBC. The HBC will be powered by a 1.0-litre ‘Energy’ engine that also powers the Triber. However, this powertrain will be a turbocharged version with higher power output and torque. The turbocharged unit currently powers the Renault Clio premium hatchback in the global markets.
Apart from the platform and mechanics, the design and interior of the Nissan-Datsun compact SUV will be completely different from the Renault HBC. The new small-SUV will have familiar Datsun-like face and better quality interior. It is expected to be equipped with features like touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, start/stop button, split second row seats, powered ORVMs and multi-functional steering wheel.
Nissan is not participating at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company could showcase the new compact SUV in a private event prior to Auto Expo or closer to the launch details. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews, we will bring you more details about the upcoming Nissan compact SUV!
