We reported earlier that Volkswagen will soon discontinue the existing Polo nameplate from the Indian market. The company will soon end the production of the Polo hatchback. Before discontinuing the popular nameplate, Volkswagen India will be launching a special farewell edition of the Polo hatchback. In fact, Volkswagen’s brand director Ashish Gupta has confirmed that the limited edition will be launched in April 2022.
Details about the Volkswagen Polo farewell edition are yet to be revealed. It is expected that the limited edition is likely to come with body graphics, badges and probably bespoke alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the hatchback could receive unique seat covers and few additional features.
The Volkswagen Polo is offered in 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 76PS and 95Nm of torque, the turbo engine churns out 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
We believe that the Volkswagen Polo special edition could be offered with the single TSI turbo petrol engine with 6MT & 6AT. The current model is available in the price bracket of Rs 6.45 lakh to Rs 10.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
The report further claims that the next generation VW Polo could be re-introduced in our market. Speaking to CarDekho, Ashish Gupta said, “it isn’t goodbye for the Polo, but it’s au revoir (good bye until we meet again)”.
