1. Skoda Vision IN

Czech automaker, Skoda will introduce the long-awaited Vision IN based mid-sized SUV in the first half of 2021. The new model will be based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Rapid sedan. It will be offered with 2 petrol engines – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged. While the former is good for 108bhp and 175Nm of torque, the 1.5L engine produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.0L Petrol) and a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L Petrol).
Expected Price – Rs 9 lakh – 15 Lakh
Expected Launch – Q2, 2021

2. Tata Harrier/Gravitas

Tata Motors is readying an all-new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which will power the Harrier mid-sized SUV and the upcoming Gravitas. This engine will be a 4-cylinder version of the 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron engine that powers the Nexon. It is capable of producing around 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new model will directly rival the MG Hector, which is also available with petrol and petrol+ 48V mild hybrid system.

3. Next-gen Mahindra XUV500

The long-awaited new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will finally arrive in our market in early 2021. The new model will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform, which will also underpin the Ford C-SUV. The new model will be offered with 2 engine options – a 190bhp, 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol and a 180bhp, 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Expected Price – Rs 12 lakh – 17 Lakh
Expected Launch – Early 2021

4. Mahindra Scorpio

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra will introduce the next-gen Scorpio SUV in the second half of 2021. The new model will be based on the modified version of the ZEN3 platform, which also underpins the new Thar lifestyle SUV. The SUV will receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will produce close to 150bhp of power. It will also receive a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is likely to offer around 160bhp. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

5. Ford C-SUV

Ford Motor Company in collaboration with Mahindra is readying an all-new C-segment SUV, which will be based on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform. Not just platform, the upcoming C-SUV will share engine specifications with the new XUV500. It will be offered with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Expected Launch – 2021-22

6. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen will introduce the Taigun concept based SUV in the country in the mid-2021. The new model will be based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Vision IN based SUV. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Nissan Kicks. The SUV will share the engine options with the new Skoda Vision IN based SUV. It will be offered with two engine options – a 108bhp, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 148bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol.
