Upcoming Electric SUVs In 2024 – Tata, Mahindra, Maruti, Hyundai

In this article, we bring you a list of all-new electric SUVs that will be launched in the Indian market in the next 1 year. Automakers will introduce the electric derivatives of its existing SUVs including the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Tata Punch, while Mahindra will have its first Born-electric SUV in 2024. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki, Skoda and VW will enter the EV segment with their electric SUVs in India.

Mahindra will launch 3 electric SUVs in the Indian market in 2024. The company is preparing the XUV300 based electric SUV, which will sit below 4 meters in length. The XUV300 EV will rival the segment-leader Tata Nexon EV. It is expected to receive a 35kWh battery pack with a front-axle mounted electric motor. Mahindra will also give a mid-life facelift to the XUV400 EV, which has failed to generate volumes for the brand. The updated model will receive some design changes and revised interior along with an improved powertrain.

Mahindra has also confirmed that its first Born electric SUV, which will be based on the XUV.e8 concept, will be launched by December 2024. The new SUV will be developed on the new born electric INGLO skateboard architecture, which is compatible with different powertrain options, wheelbase, track dimensions, and AWD & RWD layouts. The electric SUV will come with a bigger battery pack based on two cell architectures – Blade and Prismatic. The SUV will be offered with RWD & AWD system. The powertrain is likely to offer a power output in the range of 230bhp to 350bhp.

Tata Motors will launch 3 new electric SUVs in the country in 2024. The company will introduce the Punch EV in the first quarter of 2024. The new model will be based on the GEN 2 platform, which is basically the heavily modified ALFA modular platform. It is likely to share the battery pack and electric motor with the Tiagor or Tigor EVs.

The company has confirmed that the Curvv EV will be based by mid-2024. The electric SUV will be built on the brand’s GEN 2 architecture, supporting various body styles & powertrains. It is expected to receive a bigger battery pack than the Nexon EV. It is likely to offer a range of around 400-500kms on a single charge.

Tata Harrier facelift

The homegrown UV maker will also launch the production version of the Harrier EV in the second half of 2024. The Harrier EV is designed on the Land Rover-derived OMEGA ARC platform, which is combined with Tata’s GEN 2 EV architecture. The platform is heavily re-engineered to adopt electrification. The SUV will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up. It is expected to feature a battery-pack of around 60kWh to 80kWh and could offer a range of around 400-500km on a single charge.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the production version of the eVX electric SUV in the country in late 2024. The SUV will be locally developed at Suzuki’s Gujarat based manufacturing platform and will also be exported to several international markets including Europe. The electric SUV will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which will also underpin multiple Suzuki and Toyota electric vehicles. It will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. It is expected to receive a 60kWh battery pack with a range of around 500km in a single charge.

It is reported that Hyundai will unveil its first mass-market electric SUV, the Creta EV in the Indian market in 2024. The SUV will receive EV-specific design changes and will have an upgraded interior. The electric SUV is expected to receive a small 45kWh battery pack sourced from LG Chem. The electric motor, borrowed from the global-spec Kona EV, will be placed at the front axle, producing 138bhp and a maximum torque of 255Nm.

The Korean automaker, Kia will launch the new-gen Carnival MPV and the EV9 electric SUV in the Indian market in 2024. The new electric SUV is based on the skateboard architecture that underpins the EV6 on sale in our market. The 3-row SUV comes with multiple seating layout, depending on the variant. In the global markets, the Kia EV9 is available with 3 powertrain options. There are two battery options – a 76.1kWh and a 99.8kWh. While the former is offered with RWD standard version, the latter is available with both RWD long-range and AWD variants. The RWD long range model with rear axle mounted electric motor is rated at 150kW & 350Nm. There is a more powerful 160kW/350Nm, single electric motor option. The AWD version has two electric motors that offer 283kW & 600Nm. It is claimed to offer a certified range of 541km on a single charge.

Citroen will introduce the electric version of the C3 Aircross in our market in 2024. While the powertrain details are not known, we expect the new model could get a 50kWh battery pack. The same battery pack is offered with the e-C4 X electric and has an electric motor rated at 136bhp and 260Nm. It is claimed to offer a range of 357km on a single charge.

Skoda Enyaq iV & VW ID.4

Skoda and Volkswagen will also enter the EV race in the Indian market. Skoda will launch the globally popular Enyaq iV electric SUV, while Volkswagen will introduce the ID.4 in the country in 2024. Both are based on the Volkswagen Group’a MEB born electric platform that also underpins the Audi Q4 e-tron crossover. The platform is compatible with single-motor, RWD and dual-motor AWD setup. Both models are equipped with a 77kWh battery pack that supports up to 125kW DC fast charging. The SUVs will offer a range of around 500kms in a single charge.
