Tata Sales Declined In Nov 2023; Mahindra Records Huge Jump

Tata Motors and Mahindra, the two homegrown automakers have continuously posting good sales numbers in the Indian market. The rising demand for SUVs has significantly contributed to the rising stocks for both passenger vehicle manufacturers in India. Tata Motors reported a marginal YoY decline in sales in November 2023; however, it manages to sell over 46,000 vehicles in the market.

Tata Motors has reported overall sales (Domestic + International) of 74,172 units in the month of November 2023, reporting a YoY decline of just 1%. In the commercial vehicle segment, the company sold 28,029 vehicles in Nov 2023 as against 29,053 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY decline of 4 percent.

In the domestic passenger vehicle category, Tata Motors sold 46,143 units in November as against 46,425 units in the same month last year, reporting a marginal decline of just 1 percent. The company’s EV sales increased by good 7 per cent with 4,761 units sold last month as against 4,451 units in November 2022. Tata’s PV IB (International Business) reported a huge decline of 81 percent with only 75 units sold last month as against 388 units in the same month last year. This majoraly contributes to overall decline in sales; otherwise Tata sold 31 more vehicles in the domestic market last month compared to November 2022.

Mahindra & Mahindra has reported that its total wholesales increased by 21 per cent year on year to 70,576 units in November 2023. The company dispatched 58,303 units in November 2022. In the UV segment, Mahindra dispatches 39,981 vehicles in November 2023 as against 30,238 units in the same period last year, reporting a YoY sales increase of 32 per cent.

Mahindra’s exports decline by 42 percent last month to 1816 units as compared to 3122 units in the same period last year. Commenting on sales, M&M President Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said, “We continue our growth trend, backed by strong demand for our SUV portfolio. While we saw a healthy festive season, we faced supply challenges on select parts during the month. We are keeping a close watch and taking appropriate steps to mitigate the challenges.”

Mahindra & Mahindra’s tractor wholesales stood at 32,074 units in November 2023 as compared to 30,528 units in the same period last year. However, tractor exports declined to 1,005 units last month as compared to 1348 units in November 2022.
