Car manufacturers in India have released their sales data for the month of December 2020. The sales numbers reveal that most of the automakers including Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have posted negative sales growth. Most of the brands have also recorded month-on-month sales decline. The big news comes from the stable of Tata Motors, which manages to beat Hyundai to become the second largest carmaker in December 2022.
Tata Motors has sold 40,043 vehicles in December 2022 as against 35,299 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a YoY sales growth of 13.44 percent, as the volume gain stood at 4,744 units. However, the brand’s month-on-month sales declined by 13 percent from 46,037 units. The company has sold 3,868 vehicles in December 2022 as against 2,355 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 64.2 percent.
Tata Motors regained the number 2 position in the country by beating Hyundai. The Korean automaker has reported sales of 38,831 units in the Domestic market in December 2022. The company had delivered 32,212 vehicles in the same month last year. While the YoY sales growth stood at 20.18 percent, the month-on-month sales declined by a good 19.11 percent. Hyundai had dispatched 48,003 vehicles in the domestic market in November 2022. The company’s export grew by 14.44 percent from 16,6621 in December 2021 to 19,021 units last month.
When it comes to overall sales for the 2022, Hyundai has managed to grab 2nd position with over 5.5 lakh cars sold. This is 26,000 more than that of Tata Motors, which managed to sell around 5.26 lakh vehicles in 2022.
