Groupe PSA is all set to enter India with the Citroen brand with its maiden offering C5 Aircross. Prices of the SUV are slated to be announced on 7th April 2021. Ahead of its official arrival, the Peugeot 2008 SUV from PSA Groupe has been spotted testing for the first time in the country. The model is likely to be there for the component and engine testing purposes that will be used in the upcoming Citroen cars. As of now, the carmaker has no plan to bring in Peugeot brand in India.
One must note that the Europe-spec 2008 underpins the CMP1 modular platform that will also be used for the upcoming Citroen CC21 (codename) subcompact SUV. The architecture is compatible to internal combustion engines and electric powertrains along with three wheelbases, three modules, two track widths and multiple wheel diameters. It’s claimed to provide “great modularity.
The upcoming Citroen subcompact SUV is reported to hit roads during this Diwali season. Once launched, the upcoming Citroen small SUV will take on multiple cars including Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the newly-launched Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
As mentioned above, the Peugeot 2008 might also be tested for the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that will power the upcoming small Citroen SUV. The motor has been tuned for producing three different power outputs – 98bhp, 128bhp and 153bhp. The new compact SUV will be made available with 5-speed manual gearbox. Globally, the Peugeot 2008 is offered in four trims – Active, Allure, GT Line and GT. Features such as full LED projector headlamps with 3-claw light signature, diamond cut 18-inch aluminium wheels with inserts, black trim mood lighting, adamite colour stitching, aluminium pedals and dynamic seats are reserved for the top-end GT Line and GT trims. The SUV meets the latest Euro 6 emission standards and comes with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox.
