New Yamaha MT03, R3 Launched – 8 Key Facts Explained

Yamaha Motor India has introduced the MT03 streetfighter and R3 supersport bikes at Rs 4,59,000 and Rs 4,64,900, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. In comparison to the more powerful and electronically advanced Aprilia RS 457, the new Yamaha motorcycles come at a higher price.

– Both models are imported via the CBU (completely built unit) route from Thailand. However, the company may consider bringing them as CKD (completely knocked down) units if there is a positive market response. In such a scenario, their prices will witness a significant drop.

– The motorcycles will be exclusively available through Yamaha’s 200 Blue Square premium dealerships nationwide, which serve as one-stop solutions for buyers and provide access to Yamaha’s Blue Streaks rider community.

– The Yamaha MT03 is offered in Midnight Cyan and Midnight Black color schemes, while the Yamaha R3 is available in Yamaha Black and Icon Blue shades.

– Powering both the Yamaha MT03 and R3 is a 321cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing a peak power of 42PS and 29Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.

– Compared to its predecessor, the new Yamaha R3 features a sharper stance and a more aerodynamic design. LED elements adorn its headlights, and an air duct is integrated for optimal cooling. Turn indicators are seamlessly integrated into the fairing, while the rearview mirrors remain mounted on the cowl. Other design highlights include a small windscreen, sculpted fuel tank, clip-on handlebars, upswept exhaust, and a split seat.

– The Yamaha MT-03 shares its design elements with other MT bikes, such as the MT-15, but it lacks a fairing. The bike boasts a fully digital instrument cluster displaying various information, including gear position, fuel capacity, average and real-time fuel economy, coolant temperature, clock, trip meter, etc.

– Both bikes feature USD forks at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. Braking duties are handled by 298mm and 220mm front and rear disc brakes, with dual-channel ABS being standard.

– The new Yamaha R3 rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with 110/70 front and 140/70 rear tires. The kerb weight of the MT-03 and R3 stands at 168kg and 169kg, respectively.
