New Scorpio To MG Astor: 10 New SUVs In India By 2022

Here is a list of top 10 new exciting new SUVs starting from micro segment to premium 7-Seater D segment, which will be launched in the Indian market before the end of 2022.

1. 5-Door/LWB Maruti Jimny

Suzuki has started testing the long wheelbase version of the Jimny SUV in Foreign countries. This model is expected to be launched in our market as a 5-door model, which is rumoured to be called the new Gypsy. It is likely to be launched by July 2022 and will be positioned against the Mahindra Thar. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

2. Jeep Patriot 7-seater SUV

Jeep has trademarked the Patriot nameplate in India, which suggests that the upcoming 7-seater SUV will be called the Jeep Patriot. The new model is based on the modified version of the Small Wide Platform, which also underpins the Jeep Compass. The SUV will rival the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It is likely to be launched in the end of 2021 or early 2022. The Patriot will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 200bhp and over 400Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic.

3. Hyundai Alcazar

Korean automaker, Hyundai will unveil the Alcazar 7-seater SUV in the Indian market on April 6, 2021. It is basically the 7-seater version of the Hyundai Creta. The SUV is expected to ride on 20mm longer wheelbase and will be 30mm longer than the regular model. It will be offered in 6 and 7-seat layouts. The SUV will rival the Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus and the Tata Safari. The SUV is expected to be offered in two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol.

4. Tata HBX

Tata Motors is all set to launch a new micro SUV based on the HBX concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. Rumoured to be called Tata Timero, the new sub-4 meter SUV is likely to go on sale in mid-2021 before Diwali. The micro SUV will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 85bhp and 110Nm of torque.

5. New Mahindra XUV500

The second generation Mahindra XUV500 is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2021. Based on the new monocoque platform, the new XUV500 will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. The SUV will rival the MG Hector Plus and the new Tata Safari. It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbo petrol with power output close to 190bhp and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel with power close to 180bhp.

6. New Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra will introduce the new generation Scorpio before the end of this year. The new SUV will be based on the new ladder-on frame chassis, which underpins the new Thar. It will be significantly bigger than the existing model and will receive forward facing third-row of seats. The SUV will also get a standard sunroof, multi-functional steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system and other premium features. The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will come with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version will get the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, which is likely to produce around 152bhp. The diesel version will receive the new 2.2-litre turbocharged engine, which is likely to offer 158bhp of power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV is also likely to get AWD or 4×4 option.

7. MG Astor

MG Motors will launch the Astor mid-sized SUV in the third quarter of 2021, before Diwali. It is basically the petrol version of the ZS EV. The new model will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the soon-to-be-launched Skoda Kushaq. The SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 120bhp, 1.5-litre NA petrol and a 163bhp, 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol.

8. Citroen C21

Citroen will start rolling out locally developed products in the second half of this year. The Citroen C21 micro SUV will be the first model in its segment, which will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and others. The new model will be based on the new CMP (Common Modular Platform), which will also underpin the upcoming Jeep sub-4 meter SUV. The new model is likely to be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with power output close to 130bhp.

9. Skoda Kushaq

Skoda has officially revealed the production version of the Kushaq mid-sized SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in the end of Q2, 2021. The new model will mark the debut of VW Group’s locally developed MQB AO IN platform. It will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 148bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol.

10. Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen will introduce the production version of the Taigun mid-sized SUV in the third quarter of 2021, before Diwali. It is based on the MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Kushaq. Not just platform, the SUV will also source the engine options from the Skoda Kushaq. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L petrol only) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.0L petrol only).
