It is well-known that Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to launch the 5-door version of its highly popular Thar lifestyle off-road SUV. The production-ready version is likely to be named Mahindra Thar Armada, as recently trademarked by the company. While the official launch date and details are yet to be announced, the model is expected to debut in August, possibly around Independence Day on the 15th, with the market launch following in the subsequent months.
5-Door Mahindra Thar Features
The Mahindra Thar Armada, essentially the 5-door version of the Thar, will feature slightly different styling than its 3-door counterpart. With a 300mm longer wheelbase, the 5-door Thar will offer a more spacious cabin and enhanced practicality with a flexible seating arrangement, additional storage spaces, and a larger luggage area. Spy images reveal two individual seats for rear occupants, with the option of an additional bench seat.
In order to enhance comfort levels, Mahindra will include dedicated AC vents, individual armrests for the driver and front passenger, and a rear center armrest. Higher trims will exclusively offer a single-pane sunroof and a dashcam. Similar to the XUV700, the upcoming Mahindra Thar Armada will feature a 10.25-inch digital driver display, with lower trims likely to be equipped with analogue dials. The SUV will also come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Adrenox software and OTA updates. Inside, there will be a dual-tone Black and Brown interior theme instead of the all-black color scheme.
5-Door Mahindra Thar Design
Diverging from the 3-door version’s six-slat grille, the 5-door Thar will showcase a six-slat grille divided by two vertical separators for each, along with a horizontal divider running across its width. The SUV will come equipped with an all-LED lighting system and newly-designed 18-inch alloy wheels.
5-Door Mahindra Thar Engine Specs
The Mahindra Thar Armada SUV is expected to share its powertrains with its 3-door counterpart, featuring the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines. The gasoline unit produces 200bhp and 370Nm/380Nm, while the diesel engine delivers 172bhp with 370Nm/400Nm. Both 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes will be available. The 5-door Thar is likely to share the penta-link suspension setup with the Scorpio N, enhancing its off-road capabilities. Both 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain systems will be on offer.
