Isuzu Electric Pickup Truck Confirmed; Global Debut in 2025

The year 2023 is making a significant mark in the realm of electric vehicles (EVs), setting remarkable records. Numerous automotive companies have made their intentions clear to transition into all-electric brands in the coming years, while others are gradually moving towards eco-friendly solutions, reinforcing their portfolio of ICE and hybrid vehicles. Among the global automakers embracing this green shift, Isuzu, the renowned Japanese automaker, has announced its plan to enter the EV market with an electric pickup truck specifically designed for the European market.

The announcement was made by Shinsuke Minami, the President and COO of Isuzu, during a media event at the unveiling of the updated Isuzu D-Max truck in Bangkok, Thailand. Minami emphasized the company’s active efforts towards achieving a carbon-neutral society. Isuzu is dedicated to developing a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) pickup truck, and this initiative will be carried out in Thailand.

The company’s strategy involves introducing the BEV pickup truck initially in the European market, with plans for a gradual rollout in other regions, following a thorough analysis of market demands, including those in Thailand. However, technical details regarding the forthcoming Isuzu electric pickup truck were not disclosed by Mr. Minami, and the precise timeline for its European launch remains undisclosed.

Anticipations suggest that Isuzu might introduce an electric version of their popular Isuzu D-Max pickup. The new Isuzu electric pickup truck will make its global debut in 2025.

Nonetheless, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the Isuzu electric pickup truck’s availability in India. In the Indian market, Isuzu offers a range of six models catering to different automotive segments, including MU-X, V-Cross, Hi-Lander, S-Cab, S-Cab Z, and D-Max.

Earlier this year, Isuzu India introduced updated versions of the D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander, and MU-X models, ensuring compliance with the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) regulations. All three models are powered by a 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine, delivering 163bhp of power and 360Nm of torque. Isuzu has equipped these vehicles with features like low-friction tires, an idle start-stop system, and a transmission fluid warmer for the automatic variants. These enhancements are aimed at improving fuel efficiency while simultaneously reducing emissions. Furthermore, buyers now have the option of a new ‘Valencia Orange’ color scheme for all three Isuzu models.
