Citroen Betting Big On Basalt Coupe SUV – Tata Curvv Rival

The Citroen Basalt, the French automaker’s mid-size coupe SUV, is set to hit showrooms in the second half of 2024. This will be the fourth model under Citroen’s C-Cubed program, and it will compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv, also expected to launch in mid-2024. Citroen’s Thiruvallur facility in Tamil Nadu will serve as the production hub for the coupe SUV for both the domestic market and South America. The company has also confirmed an electric version of the Basalt, likely to be launched in early 2025.

Following the pattern of other C-Cubed products, the Citroen Basalt will use the modular CMP architecture. The coupe SUV shares some body panels and design elements with the C3 Aircross, such as the LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and the bonnet. However, it has a distinct two-part grille in body color, projector headlamps with a smoked-out effect, more pronounced shoulder creases, a sloping roofline, squarish wheel arches with a gloss finish, and uniquely designed alloy wheels.

The rear section of the Basalt has a notchback-like design, a short rear windscreen, larger and newly designed LED taillamps, and a distinctively designed rear bumper with a dual-tone black and silver finish. Unlike the concept model, which featured alloys with a gunmetal finish, the production-ready version might have more conventional alloy wheels. The coupe SUV retains the pull-type door handles from the concept.

Interior details for the Citroen Basalt have not been revealed yet, but it is likely to have a dashboard similar to the C3 Aircross. In terms of features, the coupe SUV might offer wireless charging, electrically foldable mirrors, cruise control, climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, and more.

Under the hood, the new Basalt is likely to feature a 1.2L turbo petrol engine producing 110bhp. The engine will be available with both manual and automatic torque converter gearbox options.
