Toyota and Suzuki joint venture is readying an all-new mid-sized MPV, which will be positioned between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta. A new media report claims that the joint venture is also working on an all-new small car. Codenamed 560B, the new small car is reportedly to be launched under the Toyota nameplate in India.
The report claims that the new Toyota small car could be launched by the end of 2021 or early 2022. Details about the new model are yet to be revealed; however, it is likely to be the compact battery electric vehicle (BEV). This compact car could share the powertrain from the WagonR electric that has been on test since 2018. This model is expected to deliver a real-world range of around 130km – 180km. Toyota would aim to price this model under Rs 10 lakh, which will make it one of the most affordable EVs in India.
The duo will also launch an all-new mid-sized MPV in the second quarter of 2022. This model will also receive a differently styled derivative, which will be sold under the Maruti Suzuki nameplate. The new MPV will rival the Mahindra Marazzo and the upcoming MPVs from Kia Motors and Hyundai.
Previous reports also claims that Toyota-Suzuki joint venture is also developing an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. This SUV is rumoured to be based on the Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform that also underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. The new SUV is expected to be launched in 2022-23.
Maruti Suzuki will introduce the next generation Celerio and the Alto in the country in the next 1-2 years. Adding to it, the company is readying the next-gen Vitara Brezza which is likely to arrive in the first half of 2022. MSIL is also expected to launch an all-new compact crossover based on the Baleno and the 5-door Jimny SUV in India.
