The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra is preparing the 5-door version of the Thar lifestyle SUV which will go on sale this year. If reports are to be believed, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will go into series production around June this year. Going by this report, the more practical Thar is expected to be launched sometime in August, most probably on the Independence Day.
The 5-Door Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV has been spotted testing numerous times on the Indian roads. The SUV could be called the Mahindra Thar Armada, as the name has already been trademarked. It will be built on the same production line as the 3-door iteration and the company aims to produce around 4,000 units a month.
The 5-door Mahindra Thar lifestyle SUV will come with design changes and a more friendly & practical interiors. It will come with a 6-slat grille divided by 2 vertical separators for each grille, LED lighting system including LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and LED tail-lamps, and an all-new 18-inch alloy wheels. It will come with a metal roof with a soft fabric roof liner, which is also evident from the multiple testing. It is reported that the wheelbase has been increased by 300mm to accommodate a rear door and a bigger boot space.
The lifestyle SUV will come with same dashboard layout as the 3-door model, featuring the round-shaped AC vents, familiar grab handle for the co-occupant and a metal badge plate below the left AC vent. The LWB Mahindra Thar will have dual-tone brown and black colour scheme. It is likely to receive a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with an improved user-interface. This infotainment unit will be compatible with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, and navigation. The Thar 5-door metal roof with a soft fabric roof liner has helped Mahindra to add a popular single-pane sunroof.
The 2024 Mahindra Thar Armada is likely to share the engine options with the Scorpio-N. The SUV will have the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel motors, delivering 200bhp with 370Nm/380Nm and 172bhp with 370Nm/400Nm respectively. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The lifestyle off-road SUV is expected to come with either 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options. The SUV is also likely to receive the Scorpio N’s penta-link suspension for improved stability.
