Several new car launches have been planned for early next year. Here’re key details and expected prices of the 3 upcoming new MPVs, which are reported to arrive in the first half of 2022.
Updated Maruti XL6
Maruti Suzuki is reported to give an update to the XL6 MPV in January 2022. Rumour has that the automaker might introduce the 7-seater version of the MPV, which is already on sale in Indonesia as Suzuki XL7. It offers a bench seat for the second row occupants. Details of the 2022 Maruti XL6 are yet to be revealed. It’s likely to feature newly-designed alloy wheels, contrast black roof and a rear spoiler. Engine setup, however, might remain unchanged. The MPV is likely to use the same 105PS, 1.5L K15B petrol engine with both manual and automatic gearbox options. The updated model lineup is expected to come in the price range of Rs 10 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia KY
It isn’t a secret that the South Korean automaker is working on a compact MPV for the Indian market. Codenamed Kia KY, the model is reported to be designed on the Seltos’ platform. Its prototypes have been caught on camera multiple times during its test rounds. The upcoming new Kia compact MPV is likely to measure around 4.5 meters in length. Reports suggest that the KY will have an electronic button to access the third row seat, which will be first in the segment. It could be made available in 6-seat or 7-seat configurations. While the entry-level variants of the new Kia MPV will be placed against the Maruti Ertiga, the top-end variant will take on Toyota Innova Crysta. Its engines and gearboxes are likely to be borrowed from the Kia Seltos. We expect it to be priced from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai Stargazer
If reports are to be believed, Hyundai might introduce the Stargazer MPV in India, which was recently spotted testing in Korea and Indonesia. It will be designed and developed especially for the Southeast Asian market. The model will be produced for domestic and global markets at Hyundai India’s Chennai-based facility. The Hyundai Stargazer will come with the 7-seats layout and measure around 4.5 meters in length. Here, it could be offered with the 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines making power worth 113bhp with 145Nm and 113bhp with 250Nm respectively. The automaker might also use the Alcazar’s 2.0L petrol engine. The upcoming Hyundai compact MPV could be priced as low as Rs 9 lakh for the base variant and up to Rs 14 lakh for the range-topping variant.
