Japanese automaker, Honda has unveiled the new generation HR-V mid-sized SUV for the European markets. The Japanese version, called the new Honda Vezel, has also been revealed, which will be launched in the mid-2021. The 2022 Honda HR-V comes with a powerful two-motor e:HEV powertrain as well as all-new design, interior and features. All-New Design
The 2022 Honda HR-V comes with all-new design, which is completely different from the previous model. The SUV gets compact coupe-inspired design, which resembles the Honda e-Concept SUV. The SUV looks bigger than the previous model. It features a more angular overall look. In terms of styling, the SUV gets a new bold integrated front grille, a long bonnet, door-mounted ORVMs, and rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar, and a sleeker roofline.
Honda Claims that “the bonnet centre is low and flat, with a shoulder line that flows to the base of the A-pillars, projecting a sense of stability and security that further enhances the SUV aesthetic.”
Modified Platform
The 2022 Honda HR-V is based on the modified version of the existing platform, which also underpins the new Jazz and the City. The platform has been modified to accommodate new hybrid powertrain. It was speculated that new HR-V will debut the brand’s new global architecture.
The company hasn’t reveal the size of the SUV; however, reports claims that the new model will grow in size. The SUV will measure around 4,450mm in length, 1,780mm in width and 1,600mm in height. This makes it around 120mm longer and 10mm wider than the current car; however, the height has been reduced by 5mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 20mm to 2,630mm, which should help Honda engineers to create more space inside the cabin.
2022 Honda HR-V New Interior
The new HR-V is claimed to offer class-leading interior space. The SUV features soft-touch materials inside the cabin. It comes with the versatile Magic Seats that offer both ‘fold-flat’ and ‘flip-up’ seat flexibility. The SUV gets hands-free power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, Honda Connect display, wireless charger, a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, automatic AC and others.
2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid Engine
Honda Europe has confirmed that the new HR-V is the latest model to join the hybrid line-up, which includes the Jazz and the CR-V. The hybrid unit comprises of a 1.5-litre iMMD (intelligent-Multi Mode Drive) petrol engine connected to a compact, powerful electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and a fixed-gear transmission. The hybrid system offers a total power output of 109PS. It is claimed to offer an excellent fuel efficiency of 26.7kmpl.
The Japanese-spec model also gets a 1.5-litre i-VTEC naturally-aspirated engine that churns out 121bhp of power and 145Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic unit.
India Launch?
The 2022 Honda HR-V will be launched in the European markets in the second half of 2021. The India launch is yet to be confirmed by the automaker. Honda is also readying a different version of the HR-V, which will be launched in North American markets and the USA. Honda could also bring the new model in India by 2022.
