Mahindra had discontinued the XUV500 SUV on the arrival of the new XUV700. However, the company said that the XUV500 nameplate will return with an all-new mid-sized SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others. Adding to it, Mahindra had showcased 5 new electric SUV concepts in August last year. These SUVs will be sold under the BE and XUV nameplate, and the BE.05 concept previews the brands future mid-sized SUV.
The XUV range includes XUV.e8 and XUV.e9, while the BE range has 3 models – BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. All these SUVs are designed and developed on the born-electric INGLO platform. A new Mahindra mid-sized SUV has been spotted testing on the Indian roads, which could be the part of Mahindra’s new BE range. The spotted model wears a colourful camouflage wrapping.
The spotted model appears more practical compared to the concept. The overall silhouette and styling of the front fascia have been retained; however, it has more practical body panels. The deep cuts and aggressive curves have been toned down; however, the spotted model has sporty and unique styling. The new Mahindra Coupe SUV has C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, sculpted bonnet, squared-shaped wheel arches, and sporty alloy.
The new Mahindra SUV comes with a conventional outside rear view mirrors, which were missing in the BE.05 concept. The concept was equipped with a camera-based rear-view assembly. The SUV has sporty coupe-like roofline with a factory-fitted sunroof, a striking tailgate and LED tail-lights in a full-width LED strip.
The BE.05 production version is likely to feature semi-active suspension and brake-by-wire, drive modes and ADAS with L2+ autonomous capability. The Born electric range will be offered with two drive configurations – single-motor and dual-motor, with an overall output rated at 228-282bhp and 335-389bhp, respectively. At the unveiling, Mahindra claims that the SUV would be capable of achieving 0-100kmph acceleration in 5-6 seconds. The SUVs will come with battery pack ranging from 60 to 80 kWh. The production version of the BE.05 is likely to be introduced by October 2025.
