The Hyundai i20 is one of the most coveted hatchback cars in the Indian market. However, since the generation update in 2020, there has been a tussle over its pricing. Nevertheless, we’re here to help you find its most value-for-money variant.
Let’s start with the specifications: –
Engine Specifications and Performance
Engine | 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol | 1-litre turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre diesel |
No of Cylinders | 4 | 3 | 4 |
Max Power | 83PS | 120PS | 100PS |
Max Torque | 114Nm | 172Nm | 240Nm |
Gearbox Options | 5-speed MT / CVT | 6-speed iMT / 7-speed DCT | 6-speed manual |

- For the new-gen i20, Hyundai has made some tweaks to its 1.2-litre petrol engine, which helps in refinement. In the city, it’s pretty good, and you won’t have much reason to complain, but when you go on highways or try to squeeze every drop of horsepower out of it, it begins to feel strained.
- Hyundai’s 1.5-litre diesel engine is highly refined, and its low-down torque lets you tackle bumper-to-bumper traffic easily. However, it is most impressive around 2000 rpm and won’t disappoint in some playful driving scenarios.
- Hyundai also offers the i20 with a 120PS turbocharged petrol engine from the Venue, albeit in a revised gearing ratio. It is a highly refined, quick-revving, high-performance unit that should be reserved for enthusiast buyers.
Dimensions and Cabin Space
Length | 3,995mm |
Width | 1,775mm |
Height | 1,505mm |
Wheelbase | 2,580mm |
Boot Space | 311 litres |
With regards to size, the new-gen i20 has grown as well as adopted a new platform. It is 10mm longer and 41mm wider than the second-gen Hyundai Elite i20. A 10mm increase has also been made to the wheelbase. All of these contribute to a more spacious cabin. Two six-footers could sit behind each other comfortably on the side seats, as there is plenty of leg and knee room for them. The headroom is also adequate, with a scooped-out roof. Three average-sized people can now sit at the back thanks to the well-contoured side portions and the tiny mid hump. A bit more reclining of the rear backrest would have made the seats more comfortable, however.
Its 311 litres of boot space is good enough to accommodate four medium-sized bags easily.
