Maruti Suzuki is testing two new utility vehicles including a SUV Coupe and the long wheelbase version of the Jimny SUV. Both SUVs are scheduled to make global debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January. Adding to it, Maruti Suzuki will also launch the new gen Swift hatchback in 2023.

The new Baleno Cross, internally called YTB is reportedly to be launched in February 2023. It will share most of the features and design elements with the Baleno and the new Grand Vitara. It will also mark the re-introduction of the Suzuki’s 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. On the flip side, the Jimny 5-door version will be powered by a 1.5L K15C petrol engine with a mild hybrid setup. It will get Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD setup as standard.

Suzuki has also started testing the next gen Swift hatchback on foreign soil. It is expected that the new Swift will also make its way to our market sometime in 2023. The new model will be based on the stronger Heartect platform that underpins the new Baleno hatchback. It will retain the existing engine and gearbox option.

Toyota is also working on an all-new SUV Coupe, which will be the restyled version of the Baleno Cross. It is likely to source the design cues from the Yaris Cross on sale in overseas markets. The new model will be powered by a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and gearbox options. It will also receive a 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox.

2022 Toyota Innova Zenix

The company will also launch the next gen Innova Hycross and the next gen Fortuner SUV in 2023-24. The new Innova will be based on the new TNGA-C front wheel drive platform. It won’t be offered with a diesel engine. It will receive a new 2.0L petrol engine with a strong hybrid powertrain. Moreover, the MPV is likely to get ADAS tech and a panoramic sunroof.

The next gen Fortuner is reportedly to be launched in 2023. The new model will be based on the Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture, which also underpins the Tundra and the Land Cruiser SUVs. It will come with a new diesel engine with mild hybrid system. It will get the 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre diesel engine with an integrated starter generator (ISG). The new Toyota’s mild-hybrid diesel engine could be called the GD Hybrid. It is likely to offer higher fuel efficiency and added torque on demand.
