Tata Motors has rolled out the 100,000th unit of the Punch mini SUV from its plant in Pune. With this achievement, it becomes the fastest SUV to record this production figure in just 10 months of its market arrival. The model has consistently among India’s top 10 selling cars since October 2021. The mini SUV recorded its highest ever monthly sales in July 2022 – i.e. 11,007 units. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said the Punch’s achievement shows overwhelming response of customers.
The Tata Punch comes with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s good for 86bhp and 113Nm. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The latter one has automatic engine start/stop functionality that enhances its fuel efficiency. The mini SUV’s manual model delivers a claimed mileage of 18.97kmpl and automatic version promises 18.82kmpl. It offers traction modes as we have seen on some bigger Tata SUVs. The Punch is capable to attain 0 to 60kmph in 6.5 seconds and 0 to 100kmph in 16.5 seconds.
The mini SUV model lineup comes in four variants – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The range-topping Creative trim offers some exclusive features such as a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, IRA connected car tech, auto climate control, puddle lamps, rear seat centre console, rear seat centre armrest, cooled glovebox, power folding wing mirrors, LED DRLs, auto headlamps and wipers and projector headlamps.
In other updates, the home-grown automaker is planning to launch the Tata Punch CNG variant. The power and torque figures of the CNG version will be slightly lower than the standard petrol model. While the power output will be around 70-75bhp, the torque figure will be 100Nm. It will be made available with manual gearbox only. The Punch CNG will deliver fuel efficiency of around 30km/kg.
