Launched in January 2020, the Altroz is only hatchback in India to secure 5 star rating in Global NCAP. The new hatchback is available in two engine options – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The diesel version is available in the price bracket of Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom). In August 2020, Tata Motors had increased the prices of the Altroz line-up by Rs 16,000 (except the base diesel variant).
The diesel verion is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel that is capable of producing 89bhp of power at 4,000rpm and a peak torque of 200Nm between 1,250-3,000rpm. The petrol version is equipped with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine that churns out a maximum power output of 85bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 3,300rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Tata Motors is also readying the turbo version of the Altroz hatchback, which has already been spotted testing in India. The Altroz Turbo is likely to source the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon compact SUV. While powering the Nexon, the 1.2L Turbo engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. If media reports are to be believed, the Turbo version could also feature the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
