Volvo S90’s Bookings Commence in India; Launch in Festive Season

Volvo S90 India launch

The much-awaited Volvo S90 sedan’s pre-bookings have commenced ahead of its launch in India in September or October 2016.

Volvo Auto India has commenced pre-bookings for the upcoming Volvo S90 that will come as a replacement to the S80 sedan. Built on Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the S90 surely is a lot better than the S80 in almost all departments including design, performance and comfort. This is the same platform that underpins the company’s flagship product XC90.

Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “The S90 is one of the most awaited launch from Volvo’s portfolio this year. It’s got everything you would expect a luxurious sedan to have- the look, the feel and the design without any compromise on the comfort.”

Volvo S90 India side profile

The Volvo S90 features the company’s latest design philosophy, as it shares design cues with the XC90. The Swedish carmaker says that the Volvo S90 is as luxurious and special on the inside as it is outside.

The S90 will be offered a diesel engine initially, petrol & hybrid versions will come at a later stage. The diesel engine, 2.0-litre (1969cc), four-cylinder, will be offered in two states of tune – 190bhp/400Nm and 235bhp/480Nm. The less powerful version will be offered on the Volvo S90’s base D4 variant, while the top-of-the-line D5 variant will get the 235bhp version.

Expected to be launched in September or October 2016, the Volvo S90’s prices might start at Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon its launch, Volvo’s new sedan will take on the likes of BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
