Yezdi Motorcycle To Be Launched In India This Diwali – Report

After introducing the Jawa brand, the Mahindra-owned Classic Legends PVt Ltd is reportedly planning to bring back the iconic Yezdi brand in India. What’s interesting is that the new Yezdi brand will be re-introduced this festive season before Diwali. The report also claims that the brand is fine tuning a newly developed 650cc engine for motorcycles planned under the BSA brand.

A person close to the development said that “the revival of Yezdi nameplate is critical for the survival of Classic Legends in terms of scaling up the business volumes and that of the vendors and the deslers while improving their viability.”

Classic Legends revived the iconic Jawa in November 2018. The company had launched two motorcycles – Jawa and Jawa Forty Two. Jawa is currently selling 3 bikes in the Indian market through its pan-India network of about 200 outlets. Adding to it, the total sales for the brand have crossed 50,000 mark.

Classic Legends ramped up its montly production from about 4,000 units to 7,000 units. The demand for the new motorcycles were peaked during the festive season last year. However, the rising COVID-19 cases hugely impacted the sales of Jawa in India. Classic Legends expects a strong revival in the consumer sentiment as the range of vaccination progresses.

A new retro-classic Scrambler, which is likely to be the new Yezdi bike, was recently caught testing on the Pune-Nashik Highway. The motorcycle was equipped with advanced features such as a digital console, LED headlamp and tail-lamp, and dual-channel ABS system.

The new Yezdi bike is expected to feature the same 293cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that powers the Jawa. Paired to a 6-speed gearbox, this engine produces 26.51bhp of power and 27Nm of torque. The Jawa Perak comes with a more powerful 30bhp, 344cc engine, which is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

BSA 650cc Engine

The report claims that Classic Legends engineers have also developed a new 650cc engine to power the middleweight BSA motorcycles. The new engine is in advanced stages of testing. The new BSA motorcycles will be launched UK, and the new powertrain will be compliant with the new European-emission norms. The new BSA motorcycles are likely to be manufactured in India and assembled overseas. Adding to it, a dedicated assembly line for the premium BSA motorcycles has been set up at the Pithampur plant.
