Yamaha XSR 155 India Launch Isn’t Anytime Soon

Unveiled in August last year, the Yamaha XSR 155 retro-looking bike was the third addition to the brand’s global XSR range. The model was recently introduced in a new Matte Green Authentic colour scheme in the Indonesian market. As of now, the Japanese bikemaker has no plan to bring in the XSR 155 in India.

Speaking to Autocar, Ravinder Singh, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, has revealed that the company’s isn’t considering the XSR 155 for the Indian market. Currently, the company aims to strengthen its market in the highly competitive 150cc-200cc segment with the newly-launched Yamaha FZ-X.

Talking about the Yamaha XSR 155, the bike shares its platform with the YZF-R15 V3.0 and MT-15. For power, its uses a 155cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine pushing out a peak power of 19.3bhp and 14.7Nm of torque. It gets a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. The motor has been benefited with VVA (variable valve actuation) technology that optimizes power output within variable speeds. The Yamaha XSR 155 carries a retro-looking tank and a flat seat with a ribbed pattern. Its circular headlamp and taillamp seem inspired by Yamaha’s 70s and 80s motorcycles. The circular instrumentation pod looks old-school, but features a fully digital screen. Its overall length, width and height stand at 2000mm, 805mm and 1080mm respectively. The Thai-spec model carries a kerb weight of 134kg, thus making it 1kg heavier than the MT-15. The bike comes fitted with 17-inch wheels and 110/70 front and 140/70 rear tyres.

Recently, the Japanese two-wheeler maker revealed that it aims to introduce multiple new premium motorcycles (150cc- 250cc) and scooters (125cc) in the next 5 years. It’s also working on an electric scooter that will be based on its all-new electric 2-wheeler platform.
