Yamaha To Launch Bikes Over 300cc & Premium Scooters In India
Yamaha is considering bikes above 300cc and premium scooters with engine displacement of 125-150cc.
Seeing the growing demand for higher capacity motorcycles, two-wheeler brands are now working on premium bikes to strengthen their market position. Japanese two-wheeler brand, Yamaha is also focusing on the premium segment in India with higher displacement bikes.
With premium bikes & scooters, Yamaha is aiming to re-establish itself in the highly competitive Indian two-wheeler market. Speaking to ET Auto, Motofumi Shitara, chairman, Yamaha Motor India said that the brand’s focus in motorcycles will shift to 150cc and above segment while scooters are likely to play a mass-market participation. The company believes to have a market share of about 10% in the Indian market in the coming 5-7 years, and volume of 2.5-3 million units by 2025. Yamaha is considering bikes above 300cc and premium scooters with engine displacement of 125-150cc. Yamaha will exit the mass market motorcycles segment in the country.
