Yamaha RX100 Coming Back To India – All-New Design, Powerful Engine

Yamaha RX100, the iconic bike from the Japanese two-wheeler maker, was launched in November 1985 and discontinued in March 1996. It was quite popular among young riders in the 90s. The bike was always admired for its high performance 100cc engine and lightweight body built. During a latest interview with a media publication, Eishin Chihana, Yamaha India Chariman, has revealed that the company will bring back the RX100 brand name with a new model.

The new Yamaha RX100 will carry modern design language, though it will surely be a big challenge for the two-wheeler maker. He said that the new RX100 brand “should be an impactful package with powerful engine and design”. In after-sales market, the bike’s old model is still in demand and that’s because the company keeps providing its spare parts and components.

New Yamaha RX100 Launch

Chihana further stated that Yamaha is planning to foray into the electric scooter segment in the next three years. As of now, the upcoming Yamaha electric scooters are under their testing phase. By 2025, the Japanese two-wheeler maker will introduce its first electric scooter in the Indian market. The company is considering all three options – CBU (Completely Built Unit), CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and local assembly with high level of localisation. TVS says that it “wants to launch a ‘reliable electric scooter’.

In other latest updates, Yamaha Motor India is considering the NMax 155 sports scooter that features a 155cc, liquid-cooled engine. The motor has been benefited with the VVA (variable valve actuation) technology. With a CVT gearbox, the scooter delivers a claimed power of 15.36PS and 13.9Nm of torque. Its fuel tank is bigger than the Yamaha Aerox and it offers more under seat storage space.

The Yamaha NMax 155 comes with features such as LED headlamp, a visor, a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, a 12V charging socket, idle start/stop system, keyeless start with engine immobilizer, traction control and dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system).
