According to a latest media report, Yamaha Motor India is planning to foray into the maxi-scooter segment in near future. The Japanese two-wheeler maker aims to attract buyers that aspire for more practical and stylish scooter with different riding experience. The upcoming Yamaha maxi-scooter will be the most expensive product in the company’s Indian portfolio. It’s likely to share platform with the Yamaha Ray ZR and Fascino. The Yamaha Fascino comes with a 125cc, fuel injected engine that makes a top power of 8.2bhp and 9.7Nm. Talking about its arch rival, the Suzuki Burgman Street has been powered by a BS6-compliant 124cc, single-cylinder motor. It delivers a claimed power of 8.7bhp at 6750rpm and 10Nm of torque at 5500rpm.
Recently, the company revealed the 2021 Yamaha XMax maxi-scooter for the Japanese market. It carries a headlamp mounted front apron with a tall windscreen, an XMAX badge, a stepped-up single-piece seat with a pillion grab rail and 12V DC charging sockets. The scooter offers all-LED lighting along with the designer wheels and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Powering the new 2021 Yamaha XMax is a 249cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled SOHC engine linked to a CVT gearbox. The motor has been tuned for producing power worth 2.1bhp at 7000rpm and 24Nm of torque at 5500rpm. The maxi-scooter derives its braking power from the front and rear disc brakes. It also comes with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and traction control system. For performing suspension duties, it has telescopic forks and a unit swing at the front and rear axles respectively.
